Treasures of God Children's Home.

Welcome to Treasures of God Children's Home!

This blog is to let you know of progress and things that are happening with Treasures of God Children's Home (TGCH) in Guatemala. We are excited in your interest in what we are up to.

TGCH will care for children with physical disabilities and special medical needs who have been abandoned. We want to meet all the needs of these children, both physical and spiritual. We will teach the children about God, His love for us and a relationship with Him. We will supply the daily needs of the children including food, shelter, physical therapies, medication, specialist Dr. visits and education all in a loving and safe environment.

This is an exciting venture that I (Naomi) felt called by God to start after my arrival in Guatemala in 2009.  Before coming to Guatemala, I worked as a pediatric nurse (children) for 2 years and then a NICU nurse (premature babies and high risk newborns) for 5 years. I enjoyed my job but it was not my passion and I knew that there was more God had for me. Though I didn't know exactly what God had for me when I made the move, I trusted that His plan was best for me, and that He would show me that plan in His time.

I spent 7 months in Spanish language school and then spent the next 5 months working closely with children with severe disabilities in a small Children's home. It was during this time that I felt called to start my own home for kids with disabilities. In order to train for this job, I spent the next two years at Rehoboth Home for Children working closely under Chici and Victor Barbella as a house parent, administrative assistant and completing the sponsorship work. They have been generous with their teaching and advice on running a Children's Home. They have agreed to continue working with me, lending their expertise and advice to the starting of TGCH.

Right now we are in the paperwork and certification phase of the Home. The process had been started by a trusted social worker here in Guatemala. He estimates this process will take about one year to finish. In the meantime, we will find a house suitable for the children, furnish it and hire train the staff needed.

So please continue to check up on us and let us know you have visited in the comments below.

Thank you for the visit, and God bless!
